iPad vs iPad 2 – What’s New?

The iPad was already hailed as a fantastic piece of kit, so what could be improved upon. There’s always a little room for improvement in everything, and although tecchies and non gadget heads alike all welcomed the iPad with open arms (and wallets) it was generally agreed that a little tweaking could go a long way. Let’s look at what’s new, and what’s not.

  • iPad Screen Resolution – no change, it’s still 1024 x 768 pixels just like before.
  • iPad Display – no change, still 9.7 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD.
  • iPad Processor – has improved, it’s still 1GHz but is now Apple A5 dual-core (instead of A4) – don’t worry though, it won’t decrease your battery life.
  • iPad Storage – remains exactly the same . . . 16 / 32 / 64 GB
  • iPad Front Camera – wasn’t on the original, but is now on the iPad 2
  • iPad Rear Camera - has again been added to the iPad 2
  • iPad Bluetooth – no change, 2.1 + EDR like it was on the original iPad
  • iPad WiFi – remains the same too (why change it if it works so well) . . . 802.11a/b/g/n
  • iPad Thickness – the iPad 2 has been on a diet, originally 13.4 mm thick it’s now only 8.8 mm, impressive.
  • iPad Weight – well, it stands to reason that it will also weigh less now. The original iPad with WiFi weighed in at 680g, with the WiFi + 3G model at 730g. Nowadays you have a choice of WiFi at 601g, Verizon at 607g and AT&T at 613g.
  • iPad Color – now also available in white . . . cool.

So there you have it really, spotting the differences won’t bring you up with too many operational changes, although the iPad 2 is altogether sleeker and lighter, and it takes a wider variety of photos!
