How To Watch Live TV Free On Your iPad
How To Watch Live TV Free On Your iPad
iPads are brilliant for doing all kinds of things, but watching live TV for free isn’t generally one of them (or doing the laundry . . . pity that). One reason is that the TV networks (understandably) don’t want you to be able to watch their programming anywhere except your big screen, but Bamboom is trying it’s best to change all of that. At Bamboom they say that you can watch live TV broadcasts wherever you can get connected to the Web, on any device of your choosing.
Other companies have made similar claims in the recent past (Ivi and FilmOn) but unfortunately the courts soon put a stop to their antics. Bamboom, however, is confident that it has enough of an argument to withstand any legal challenges against it. What’s their plan?
Bamboom’s Plan
Bamboom plan to get around the present legal problems by assigning each customer with a tiny broadcast antenna, then moving the TV signal to the cloud from the antenna, where it can easily be transported to any device which has a browser. One stream per customer . . . good thinking batman. It might seem to be a pretty expensive and laborious method of doing things, but it’s very similar to the method used by Cablevision to provide its customers with a remote DVR service.
How much will it cost? – The six million dollar question (hopefully not quite that much, I thought it was supposed to be free). Well, there are plans for a free model in the pipeline with the broadcast stream being offered for free, but there will be charges made for the DVR option. It means, basically, that customers could catch live sports matches and programs from wherever they are, as long as they have Web access. Naturally the broadcasting companies like CBS are not too keen on the idea, they’ve been persuading cable providers to cough up a fortune for the rights to carry their programming in the past, so I hope that Bamboom has a lot of spare dosh to pay for legal fees, just in case.
Netflix on the iPad
In case all of this sounds a little “naughty” for you and you simply want to be able to watch TV and movies on your iPad without any trouble, then you can simply download the Netflix iPad app for FREE. If you’re not already a member of Netflix it’ll cost you a minimum of $8.99 per month, but for that you’ll be able to instantly watch movies and unlimited TV episodes. $8.99 is a small price to pay don’t you think?
Hulu on the iPad
Hulu isn’t going to be outdone either. Hulu now have a subscription service – Hulu Plus – which offers HD content on the iPad as well as many other devices for as little as $9.99 per month . . . how can you resist?
HBO on the iPad
HBO has also come up with an on-demand streaming application for the iPad (as well as the iPhone and other selected devices). It’s all part of the HBO’s TV Everywhere initiative, designed to provide extra value for all of their cable customers already paying for the premium network.
With so many options available, there’s really no excuse why you can’t watch your favorite TV shows and movies on the iPad, anytime, anywhere . . .
