Road trips are great when you know where you’re going, and they can be even more fun if you don’t, especially if you have Google Maps Navigation on your iPad to make sure that you’re heading in the right direction. Packed with street views, satellite images, traffic reports and offering step by step instructions which even does a quick re-route if you take a wrong turn. This one has been known to save many a road trip “marital”. “Ssssh, I didn’t hear what she said, did she say take the next left or the second left? Oh, I’ve gone wrong now look . . . ”

Sometimes it’s not the destination, but how you get there which is the real treat. We all spend far too much time rushing around to reach our final destination instead of slowing down and enjoying the journey. The built in GPS will tell you when you should keep on driving and when it would be fun to stop and take a break at a local oddity. It’s sold in areas, so you just need to buy the area you’ll be driving through on your road trip.

GasBook iPad App

Gas prices are on the up and up, so it’s hardly surprising that one of the most popular iPad apps for a road trip is GasBook’s directory of service stations. This app utilizes GPS to not only map any nearby gas stations but also regularly updates their prices.  How annoying is it to fill up your tank only to find the same gas a few cents cheaper just down the road. Well, with GasBook that isn’t a problem.
