How People Actually Use iPads
How People Actually Use iPads
So what do people actually DO with their iPads? It might not seem like such a silly question when you remember that thick telephone directories are generally used to stand on to enable members of the vertically challenged public to reach high shelves, and thinner books are often utilized for the number of the pages rather than what is printed on them, as a method of stopping wobbly table legs. Okay, so I’ve never actually heard of anyone using their iPad to wedge the door open on a windy day, but what do they actually do with them? Increasing numbers of people sit staring at them trying to look busy, often with the utmost amount of concentration written across their faces . . . until a wry smile or a fit of the giggles gives the game away.
5 Things People Do With Their iPads
Let’s get to the bottom of this once and for all. You see, some organizations are genuinely interested in what we do with our iPads, not just out of nosiness either, but as serious business type research. This is what they found.
Number 5 – you always have to start off at the bottom, like a run down of the music charts saving the best until last as it were. Right then, number 5, oh, that’s a bit awkward, we seem to have a tie at the bottom of the chart, there isn’t a number 5, there are two number 4′s. Right, starting off our chart tied at number 4
iPad Games / Watching Videos on your iPad
I bet you thought it would be higher up the charts than that didn’t you. Well, you’d be wrong, people do not spend all day playing games and watching movies on their iPads, they often have other, more important things to do with their iPads. They only actually play games and watch movies for around 12.3% of the time, allegedly.
So what’s at number 3?
Using iPad Apps
That stands to reason really, you can find iPad apps for just about everything these days from checking out the weather for the next few days (am I really going to have to manthe bbq for the school summer fete or will it be rained off . . . darned kids volunteering me for everything) to checking out the latest stats on the Friday night poker league or the fantasy football. That must be why iPad users spend around 19% of their time doing just that!
So, the second most popular activity which people get up to on their iPads?
Social Networking
People spend more than 21% of their time keeping contact with their old buddies or making new ones on Twitter, Facebook and that sort of thing. I wonder whether that figure has increased since a certain Mr Sheen opened his twitter account? Very possibly, what with his goddesses and tiger blood running through his veins . . .
Right then, you’ve probably guess number 1, but I’ll tell you anyway
Browsing the Web on Your iPad
Yep, people spend an average of 34.7% of their time using their iPad to browse the web. Now then, what they’re actually looking for on the web could be an entirely new survey, don’t you think?
Interestingly, (well, it is to me anyway), these are the latest figures from May 2011, but a similar survey was first conducted at the end of 2010. People are actually spending more time watching movies, playing games and using the other endless amount of apps available these days, and less time browsing the web or socializing with Twitter and Facebook. I wonder whether it’s a trend? Watch this space for future instalments . . .
Here are a few other ideas of what you can do with your iPad . . . .
